about two weeks ago Ilan Halimi, a young jewish man, was found badly injured in paris, and died of his injuries shortly afterwards. it was later discovered that he was kidnapped for ransom, because his kidnappers were sure "jews have money". the jewish community, and following them israeli and french officials, were quick to announce this was an act of antisemitism.
in my view, if anything, this was an act of stupidity (but what can you expect from criminals). they didn't kidnap him because they hate jews or because they have anything against jews. they did it because they had this notion, originated in classic antisemite accusations, that jews somehow attract money.
so i think we should be carefull not to quickly announce that every crime against jews is an act of antisemitism. sometimes, a crime is just a crime.
I'm not sure how serious you are in what you say, or what is the amount of irony in your comment on Ilan's murder… Maybe there is also a matter of age and knowledge – I would not mind to talk to you about the subjet… You seem to be a very intelligent and deep thinking person!! I came here by accident, but I'm reading your blog and your page with interest! Maybe – who knows?, we'll meet some day… Hugs, Eva
all i know is what i read in the newspapers in israel, and that's the picture i got. a random robery, made for money, not for hatered.
sorry i didn't reply earlier, somehow i didn't get a notice about your comment. i hope you'll be alright with your blog, i read what you wrote there :-/
